Mary Filer had a prolific career with a wide range of subjects rendered in an impressive variety of mediums. Her extensive figure drawings display her skill in capturing emotion and gesture as well as her exploration and control with the materials she used. The bold colours and gestural lines of this portrait are contrasted with the calm, contemplative expression of the figure. This anonymous portrait is a testament to her playful exploration in material and expressive portraits.
